About this tour

Private Acatenango Glamping Tour from Antigua (for 2 People)

Experience one of Guatemala’s most iconic adventures with added comfort and privacy on this Private Acatenango Glamping Tour from Antigua. This experience is designed for couples, close friends, or travelers who want to enjoy the famous Acatenango volcano hike with a more personal pace and the comfort of a private glamping tent reserved exclusively for two people.

This tour blends adventure and comfort, allowing you to experience the magic of Acatenango while enjoying your own private space at base camp.

A Comfortable Start from Antigua Guatemala

Your Acatenango overnight hike from Antigua begins with a scheduled departure from the city. Transportation to the volcano is provided in a comfortable minivan shared with other travelers heading to Acatenango on the same date. This transfer is organized for the group of hikers participating that day.

Before beginning the hike, the group receives a short briefing with essential information about the route, weather conditions, safety guidelines, and equipment.

Although the transportation and briefing are shared, your booking includes an important advantage: a private guide dedicated exclusively to you and your travel partner.

Hike at Your Own Pace with a Private Guide

One of the biggest benefits of this Acatenango private tour is the flexibility of hiking with your own guide. Even though you may start the trail around the same time as other hikers, your guide is assigned only to you.

This allows you to walk at the rhythm that feels right for you. Whether you prefer to hike faster, take more breaks, stop for photos, or simply enjoy the scenery, your guide will adapt to your pace without depending on the speed of the larger group.

The trail begins through beautiful pine forests before gradually climbing toward the volcanic slopes of Acatenango. As you gain elevation, the views become more dramatic, revealing valleys, mountains, and the impressive neighboring Volcán de Fuego.

Your Private Acatenango Glamping Tent

By mid-afternoon, you will arrive at Acatenango base camp, located at approximately 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) above sea level.

Here, your private Acatenango glamping tent will already be prepared. Unlike standard group tents, this space is reserved only for you and your partner. Inside the tent you will find camping beds, pillows, blankets, and soft ambient lighting, creating a cozy space to relax after the hike.

While this setup offers more comfort than traditional camping, it is still part of a true mountain experience. Nights on Acatenango can be cold, with temperatures sometimes dropping close to 0°C (32°F). Guests should bring proper thermal clothing to stay warm during the night.

The privacy of the tent is one of the highlights of this Acatenango glamping experience, allowing you to rest comfortably while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the volcano.

Front-Row Views of Volcán de Fuego

One of the main reasons travelers search for Acatenango volcano tours is the incredible view of Volcán de Fuego, one of the most active volcanoes in Central America.

From base camp, you may witness glowing lava bursts, ash clouds, and deep volcanic rumbles echoing through the night. Watching Fuego erupt under a sky filled with stars is truly one of the most unforgettable moments of the entire Acatenango volcano hike.

During the evening, you will enjoy dinner and warm beverages while taking in this dramatic natural show.

Sunrise Above the Clouds

The following morning offers another incredible moment of the Acatenango overnight hike. Guests can choose to relax at base camp or attempt the optional sunrise hike to the Acatenango summit.

Reaching the summit rewards you with panoramic views of Guatemala’s volcanic chain and a breathtaking sunrise above the clouds.

Return to Antigua Guatemala

After breakfast at camp, you will begin the descent back down the volcano. Once you reach the trailhead, transportation will be ready to bring the group back comfortably to Antigua Guatemala, completing this unforgettable Acatenango volcano adventure.

This Acatenango glamping tour is ideal for travelers who want to experience the famous volcano hike with a private guide and private sleeping space, while still sharing parts of the journey with other adventurers exploring this incredible mountain.

Frequently asked questions

How difficult is the Acatenango hike?

The Acatenango hike is considered challenging, especially during the first two hours, which are steep with loose dirt. Even with private service, you will still hike several hours to reach base camp and again the next day to descend. A reasonable fitness level is recommended, and previous experience with demanding hikes is helpful. The pace is adapted to you since this is a private tour, but it's still a true mountain adventure.

What should I bring for the hike?

You’ll need to bring 2 liters of water, warm layered clothing, hiking boots with good traction, snacks, a rain jacket, toilet paper, sunscreen, personal medication (including altitude medicine if you use it), and a small backpack. We provide cold-weather gear, trekking poles, meals, and other essentials, but extra snacks and warm socks are always a good idea.

How cold does it get at the top?

Temperatures at Acatenango can drop to 0–6°C (32–43°F) at night and may feel even colder with wind. Weather changes quickly—you may experience sun, fog, wind, and rain in the same afternoon. The private glamping tent is warm and insulated, and we provide cold-weather gear, but dressing in proper layers is essential to stay comfortable.

Can I see Volcán de Fuego erupt?

Volcán de Fuego is one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, and most nights you can see glowing activity, ash puffs, and occasional lava bursts from base camp. Eruptions are natural phenomena, so they are not guaranteed, but travelers often witness spectacular displays. You may also join an optional sunset/sunset hike to get even closer, depending on weather conditions.
